Long weekend in the sun

The long weekend was filled with the stuff we wait all Winter for. The sunshine and warm weather is here and I really hope they stick around. The scent in the air is sweetened with Spring blossoms. People move slower and seem happier. I can't get enough of all of it! Spring is my favourite and this year has been such a slow start. I was so happy to enjoy the long weekend at D's cottage. Fresh country air and greenery does a body good!

Go Jays Go!!

Currently, I am half working on web updates and half watching our Toronto Blue Jays in playoff ball! I was the hugest fan as kid until I went to New York for fashion school and didn't have as much access. Wasn't able to have the game on the radio in one ear while at the ballpark or watching on tv for every single game of the season. We used to vacation at Spring training in Dunedin. My sister and I have boxes and boxes of souvenirs and paraphernalia, much of it autographed by the 80's and 90's team members. I remember euphorically celebrating both World Series wins in '92 and '93 in the streets. We were obsessed!  So I am super thrilled as most Torontonians are to see our Jays return to the post season after so many years.

Yesterday was Aunt L.'s birthday. She always takes her birthday off of work every year. So a few hours before the game, she suggested that we try to get some tickets to Game 1 of the ALDS. Such a great environment in the dome, even way up in the last row of the 500s. Cheers were deafening and the sold-out crowd was energized. Loved watching them raise the American League East Champions banner!

Jays took a loss yesterday.  Crossing our fingers, along with the rest of the sea of blue in this town, for a healthy comeback in the remainder of the series! GO JAYS GO!!

Spa escape

Turning this into an annual tradition for SF's birthday! Drove up to Collingwood for the day to relax and zen out at le Scandinavia Spa. This time we really made the best of it.  My friend Mrs. L-O joined us on this sunny September day. Did about 7 cycles of hot, cold, rest in the Scandinavian baths before heading for massages. Some friends had gotten me a gift certificate for my birthday several months back, so I was excited to try my first massage ever!  I think I have to get used to random man with his hands all on me, but eventually I relaxed and enjoyed it. We returned to the pools for several more cycles of hot, cold, relax and repeat and by this time we were super relaxed and moving at a noticeably slower pace. Chilling by a nice fire as the sun set and glowed through the flowers was an ideal setting.  Had perfect weather and really only extracted ourselves from this bliss because we were hungry! We ended our day with a rib feast before returning to the city.

Lost my spa vibes almost immediately as I had some work to catch up on late at night before calling it. Already daydreaming of going back!

Badlands + Nature Walk

Good Friday is a day where I am often working at the One of a Kind Show or with family.  This time around I got to take a day trip with a friend.  We drove out to the Badlands and toured around in the sunshine for a bit.  Hard to believe these amazing mounds of clay heavy land are the results of poor farming practices.  Sad when you think of it that way, but are they ever stunning.
After the Badlands, we went on to visit the Forks of the Credit Provincial Park for a nice long hike/walk.  I don't get out of the big city enough.  Letting out a huge sigh of relief and feeling the calm just looking at photos from that day.  I remember when I lived in New York, I forgot about the sky until I was in a cab to the airport to leave.  You can get so caught up in city life, especially with tall buildings popping up at an alarmingly rapid rate here in Toronto, that you can forget to exhale.  Loved getting away even for a day and seeing the horizon and some nature, even if it's wilted post-Winter nature!  It was warm enough to shed the coats and layers we brought, but there were still remnants of ice and it was super muddy.  Kinda loved tromping around through it as the clouds rolled in.  I'm sure this is a lovely spot for an outing in the Summer.

After working up a good appetite (more like reaching starvation point) we headed to Orangeville for some yummy Jamaican at Soulyve.  Refuelled on tasty jerk chicken and ribs before returning to the city with full bellies and coffees for the road!  Note to self:  Must remember to make more escapes out of the downtown core.

I spy the Pod Necklace!  So excited to be adding a little jewellery to the Great Canadian Closet in this weekend's Style section of the Globe and Mail.  We are in excellent company with so many Canadian gems.  This group features the selections for women.  Also highlighted were some great picks for men!  Check out the full article for details!

Olympic countdown

With the Vancouver 2010 Olympics kicking off tomorrow here in our fair Canada, I decided it was the perfect time to gather up some Olympic themed items.

Canada Day outing

Wandered over to City Hall to check out the Jazz Festival. Found a perfect perch in the foliage with an unobstructed view of the stage and a tree trunk to lean on. There were lots of people sporting Canada themed wear which I was for some reason a bit surprised about. Glad to see the patriotic spirit!
Elicser at work at the side of the stage.
Now here is a bit of randomness... my parents recently went on a cruise. I had mentioned that I would try to no longer buy anything when traveling, just an interesting shot glass from every place. So they came home with these! I'll add them to my collection. I don't even actually use them! Maybe once in a while to measure out a shot for a cocktail... but I've got a good few now!
Also, Aunt L. picked up a copy of the commemorative edition of Time Magazine honouring Michael Jackson for me. The story after his passing seems to get more complicated every day. No matter what you think of him, the man always kept things interesting -- in life and in death! I'll have to have a flip through tonight.
