Wind, Unwind...

C. and W.'s friend has opened a charming establishment called Café Unwind on the outer edge of Kensington Market. We strolled over today and enjoyed their sunny location just as the clouds that hovered all weekend departed. We had just come from lunch with Gran, otherwise we would have for sure sampled something from their nice-looking menu.
My Americano was excellent!
I'll head back again soon! They are at 68 Wales Avenue. We had a moment of calm and serenity there before entering into the fray of a Pedestrian Sunday in the Market. Always enjoyable! Love the randomness of these days. Saw Chinese dragon dancers jamming to some freestyle rap, a marching band, international food options galore, lots of vendors filling the streets, people rejoicing in the day... Great way to cap off a packed weekend. Saw Aretha Franklin live at the Jazz Fest, returned to the strawberry fields for round two of pickin', caught up with friends by an evening backyard fire, indulged in some bevvies on a streetside patio and of course had our Sunday family events. I'm sure I must have forgotten something.... Weekends like this remind me of how great Toronto can be in the Summer months and how much we have at our fingertips. Off to eat more strawberries!

Berry picking before the storm

Hit the strawberry farm with S.K. and her ten month old today. Had a lovely time! We lucked out and were just leaving the farm before the skies opened up. The pickings were great and we already want to go back! Apparently they planted three varieties of strawberries to extend the picking season, so we've got some time to do so.
Now... what to make with my basket full of tasty little red gems? Think I might try my hand at a baked good tomorrow!

Goodnight peeps!

Welcome Summer 2011!

I love this day... It's my favourite day of the year, being the longest day of the year. It's almost 10:00 and it's still not quite dark out... By tomorrow the days will begin to get shorter and for some reason that makes me sad! I'm such a helio-centric. I definitely prefer warmer weather, so I am glad that Summer is officially here! Then despite the heat, I have a slight fear of over-powered below zero air conditioning. So, I almost always carry a scarf or shawl in my bag, no matter the season. Here are some of the pieces I found on my search for a patterned Summer weight scarf.
Julie is a Toronto designer and we often cross paths on our daily travels in the city. I'm liking her new work!
Might have to bike over to the shop on Ossington to check out the latest offerings in real life!

Okay... I think I am going to sew myself something new and season appropriate to wear before I head of to dreamland for the night. Happy Summer to you all!

Sunny weekend in June

It was such a beautiful weekend here in Toronto. I love Toronto in the Summertime. There's so much going on and there doesn't seem to be enough time to catch all of the great events on around town.... Sad I missed some of the great music that came through the city this weekend, but it was still a good one!
Saturday was a perfect day to poke around the Trinity Bellwoods Yard Sale. I always enjoy roaming around this annual sale, but this time I had some friends selling some goods, so I spent a bit of time soaking up the day (and some rays) with them.
We picked up a few funny buttons (though not this one) but I think we all came away without bringing any significant trinkets/treasures home with us.
Enjoyed some lunch and had my ice cold banana popsicle before I ran off to get myself sorted to attend the long-awaited wedding of W. and W.
Good times with some of our oldest and dearest family friends! So many touching speeches! Really should have brought a wad of tissues... The bride and groom looked like a million bucks and the whole family is cute as can be! Congrats to the happy couple!!
Sunday was family day and even though my Dad was not in town, we were thinking of him on Father's Day!
Hope you had a nice weekend too!

Misc.

Theatre on a cloudy day.
I'd better not go blonde and get an omega hair-do.
(Scary picture with eyes too far apart!)
Grand old house with comfy old chairs.
Ceiling of fresh leaves.

That's it for now.

New store: Heidi-Ho 2 at Hazelton Lanes!

This is not dĂŞjĂ  vu! Heidi-Ho 2 now has 2 locations! Earlier today I wrote about Heidi-Ho 2 on Yonge Street north of Eglinton. They recently opened a second location on the lower level of luxurious Hazelton Lanes in Yorkville. I went by for a visit today. It's the perfect place to pick up a cute little something before you pop into Whole Foods for your grocery shopping! Here are some photos of the crisp new store and the MoonRox stand filled with goodies at the cash desk. Now both locations are fully stocked with all sorts of Summer jewellery options. Congrats to Heidi on her burgeoning empire!

Heidi-Ho 2 (Yonge Street location) is re-stocked!

This is the first of two posts about Heidi-Ho 2. This is the Yonge Street location where the shop has been a neighbourhood staple for fashionable yet easy breezy duds and accessories for several years now. Heidi was one of my first supporters when I first started my business way back when, so it's always nice to visit with the Heidi-Ho 2 folks. I always think back to early in the millenium when I could not make enough Rox Chokers quickly enough to supply Heidi's customers! Can't believe how many years have flown by!
Here are some photos from my visit earlier this week to the store.
Lots of new MoonRox are in the store now! Loads of earrings, plenty of necklaces and a pile of hair pins to choose from! Visit the shop, if you please!

Shiny bridal necklace

Here are some images of a chunky necklace made for a beautiful bride to be. These pictures hardly convey how shiny and light-catching this piece is! I had a tough time getting a good photo! I used hundreds of Swarovski crystal beads to make this shimmery piece! I hope it goes just perfectly with her wedding day ensemble! I think I've said this before (and recently) but it's fun and inspiring to work on custom items, especially when using techniques that I don't use in the pieces I produce for the season.
So happy that this necklace will be part of the couple's special day!

Blue skies...

I'm exhausted after the weekend. My own fault for over-packing it, and then paying for it working until late last night. That's what weekends are for though!

We've had so much rain this Spring that it has been amazing to see some sunshine and blue skies. Seemed so novel that I had to take a picture of it! The bonus seems to be everything green is extra green with the added precipitation.

Looking forward to a very good week... Happy Monday!

Throws in colour

My friend KK enlisted me to help her and her husband to inject some colour into their recently renovated, and mostly white home. We decided to start with some throw cushions for their third floor den or secondary living space. We chose colours that reflected her Indian roots but didn't restrict ourselves when it came to selecting patterns.
I enjoyed making these comfy cushions and am pretty darned happy with how they turned out. Might have to make some new options for my own home. Really love the pom-pom trim! I splashed the pillows around my home to take these photos before handing them over to head to their real home. I hear they look great on their contemporary couch! Onto the next project! I have a big list of projects in my mind...
(I detest ironing -- don't mind the wrinkles!)

Have a great day! Where did May go? This long awaited drastically improved weather is so welcome, humidity and all! Makes it hard to concentrate on work though...
