A new dress!

I finally got around to trying my hand at making a dress from one of the books that Aunt L. got me for Christmas. I made Dress D from the Japanese book Adult Couture Stylish Dress Book Volume 2. You can get a copy here. It's the same dress as the one on the cover. I made my version with a lovely fine cotton that is light and airy for this steamy weather we have been having. I ended up taking the side seams in by a total of 4 inches so it is slightly less like PJs. Next time I make this dress, there are a few things I would change. I may lower the neckline and either lengthen the sleeves, narrow them, or cinch them with a narrow cuff or a pleat. Also, I'd put pockets in the side seams. All in all, I am happy with this comfy number!

Aunt L., my Sis and I had fish and chips from Chippy's last night and this dress was perfect for both eating a lot and dining picnic style in the park.

Antique outing

The next day, Aunt L. and I headed out to the Christie Conservation Area for the Antiques Show. I always really look forward to this show! And we've been lucky in getting good weather for a few years now. It was a scorcher, but I like it that way. Here are some photos taken over the day.
I love how this vendor created small art works as a way to display her amazing buttons for sale.
We had a great day! We came home just about empty handed, but really enjoyed inspecting all the wares and learning a few history lessons here and there.

Here's a look back at our visit in May 2009.

Now I am utterly exhausted from the events of the past few days! I hope everyone had an awesome weekend! Good night!

More Than Just a Yardage Sale

On Friday, Aunt L. and I went to the Textile Museum for the More Than Just a Yardage Sale. We lined up early with the crowds and each picked up some nice things for really great prices.
I was lingering out front and loved how the planters and bike racks are uniquely decorated with textile based creations.

Here is a bit of my haul...
Some lovely buttons, both vintage and new...
a metre stick which has already come in handy...
some rick-rack and other trimmings...
some divine pink beads...
and some excellent pins in a most charming box from Eaton's.

Island Day

I finished off my work for the day this morning and met up with A. and C. for an afternoon on the Island. It was so nice to get away from the bustling city even for a little bit. We took lots of photos (many goofy ones -- see above), biked around and enjoyed the weather and the company!
Got up close and personal with a gaggle of geese.
I was quite amused by these four promenading around.
And by these two coming to check out what the commotion was.
A chill moved in with a dark grey cloud, and it was time to return to the city. It was a great way to spend an afternoon!

I've got two days of treasure hunting ahead... Looking forward to the More Than Just a Yardage Sale at the Textile Museum tomorrow and antiquing with Aunt L. on Saturday!
Love this creative work space at The Papered Parlour.

Dinner under the trees

Last night I caught up with my dear friend E. at our usual dinner spot, Terroni on Queen. I love these warm evenings that have nary a hint of chill in the air. Perfect evenings for dining al fresco!

E. and I met back in the day when she joined our school in Grade 13. We bonded over lots of 18 year old laughter and maybe a wee bit of shopping and a few cheeseburgers. Our birthdays are one day apart, E. being one day older than me, and so we went out for a belated celebration.
We both made cards using Japanese masking tape! (These are cuter without smudges over E.'s name!) She gave me a super cute mani kit to complement my new polishes! How thoughtful! Looking forward to meeting up again soon!

Rooftop fun times!

Had a great time yesterday on a waterfront rooftop. Thanks to B&C for having the bunch of us over. Lots of food and drink and fun times. Even little Winston had a great time. What a cutie! Here are some pics from the day...
View of the Empire Sandy and the Island Airport. (Thanks to our friend C., First Mate of the Sandy, for coming up to the roof for a visit!)

View of the Spadina exit on the Gardiner Expressway.

North facing view of the Dome, CN Tower, Steamwhistle roundhouse and cityscape.
Me, enjoying the ideal weather in my sweet Dagg and Stacey dress! (I really don't wear this hat every day, but it sure seems to be in every photo of me lately. Just means that we have had nice sunny weather!)
View of HTO Park/Beach.
We ended the afternoon with a big BBQ feast. Thanks to everyone there for such a lovely day!

Victoria Day

Hope everyone enjoyed a nice May 2-4 weekend. The weather here was glorious! I enjoyed a lovely long weekend! Had a quiet day at home, a nice day with family and then a day in the sun with friends. I'm tuckered out from too much revelry in the sun today!

I took this picture when I was on a walk on Sunday evening. The lilacs around town are in perfect bloom and are so deliciously fragrant.

Let's hang!

J.M. had the week off so we hung out a bit. The weather this week has been amazing, so it was a perfect week to catch up with friends. J. M. and I went for a coffee and a stroll and picked up some surprise Let's Hang Zipper Pulls at Magic Pony. I soooo wanted the steak with the green hat, but opened up my package to find a pair of pills. He got the steak! I am so jealous! I think I have to go purchase more until I get the lime riding a scooter with the lemon in the sidecar! Too cute!
A. and I spotted these kitties hanging in Kensington. They would turn left and right in unison -- probably people watching on the warmest day of the year so far.
I also got a chance to hang with J. S. today. We caught up over lunch in the park. How cute is this little hand felted bird she is working on for her upcoming wedding! This guy is a prototype. The final products will be less googley-eyed.

Hope everyone has a great weekend! Happy Victoria Day weekend!
