Antique outing

The next day, Aunt L. and I headed out to the Christie Conservation Area for the Antiques Show. I always really look forward to this show! And we've been lucky in getting good weather for a few years now. It was a scorcher, but I like it that way. Here are some photos taken over the day.
I love how this vendor created small art works as a way to display her amazing buttons for sale.
We had a great day! We came home just about empty handed, but really enjoyed inspecting all the wares and learning a few history lessons here and there.

Here's a look back at our visit in May 2009.

Now I am utterly exhausted from the events of the past few days! I hope everyone had an awesome weekend! Good night!

Day trip

Aunt L. and I were both unable to make it out for 8 am to get the real gems at the garage sales in Cabbagetown so we decided to go to the Christie Antiques Show. We had a nice day in Dundas checking out all the antiques instead. I was very well-behaved and came home empty handed. Love to see all the amazing milk glass... well all sorts of glass.

Boston - Day 2

On my second day in Massachusetts, we drove to the Brimfield Antique and Collectibles Show which was like treasure hunting heaven. I drooled over amazing buttons...
mounds of pristine Pyrex...

and more Pyrex... even some I had never seen before... and lots of stunning Jadite...
trinkets of all sorts... I always love the animal shaped Bakelite napkin rings...
more treasures...
and still more... or are these junk?
We ate Pilgrim sandwiches... My Friend enjoyed his sandwich very much.
After re-fueling, we hit even more vendors. We visited Les with all his Bakelite gems. Many are carved by him and therefore considered altered by the purists, but it was still amazing to see his huge collection. Mr. and Mrs. W. visit him each show, which is 3 times a year, so we had a good chat. His whole booth was filled to the brim with Bakelite. He had napkin rings, bangles, rings and brooches galore, flatware and utensils and oodles more.

Here are Mr. and Mrs. W. at a booth where we bought a few gorgeous Bakelite bangles. Sadly the one I really hemmed and hahhed about fell to the ground as soon as we got it home. It broke into two so I am now trying to decide what kind of glue/adhesive to use to repair it. Anyone have any tried and true suggestions?

It was a great day at Brimfield. I saw lots of inspiring vintage jewellery and plenty of beautiful and wild collections of all sorts. The weather was perfect and we all went home with some good finds. Can't wait to go back again!

Super Saturday

Yesterday I went to the Christie Antiques Show at the Christie Conservation Area in Dundas, Ontario. I headed out with Aunt L. and my Sister. It was a perfect Spring day for it -- sunny, breezy and not too hot! I love looking for treasures at these shows. Generally, I look for housewares and decor items as I have waaaay too much furniture for this small place as it is. I have a good collection of milk glass items and always like adding to it. I also scope out the antique jewellery for inspiration and ideas. Lots of great finds out there. I came home with some stackable Fire-King milk glass mugs, a hand beater from the 1950's with Bakelite handles and a lovely Pyrex casserole dish.

Here are some pics from our day.

Lots of Mr. Peanuts

An amazing collection. This seller had so many nice items to drool over. Love those striped glasses.
Still drooling -- lots of utensils with Bakelite handles. The red-handled hand beater that came home with me is in the back of the photo piled with some green handled beaters. The next two shots are more images of her huge collection of Bakelite pieces. I especially love the animal napkin rings.

Beautiful cabinet of thread spools. Love all the colours together.

After the antique show I went straight to the joint birthday party for Bunz' 1 and 3 year olds. I missed out on the music and most of the fun but I'm glad I was able to make it. These are the two portraits of Kermit the Frog and Fozzie Bear that I painted for the biggest Muppet fans I know. These are small 8 x 10" hilarious portraits. I followed that fiesta by celebrating the birthday of J.S. of Sultry Suds with her and her friends. Happy Birthday to S., M. and J.S.!

Long but fun day! I'm happy to be relaxing and puttering around the apartment today.
