Sunny getaway

An extreme cold weather alert is on here in Toronto. Sounds like an ideal time to look back on vacation photos! Didn't take too many pics, but had a nice relaxing getaway to Punta Cana a few weeks ago. We didn't expect that "adults only" resort meant a mostly age 75 plus population, so it was very quiet and sleepy at our resort, but we really got to relax and the weather was a perfect 28 degrees and sunny. It was an ideal way to wind down after a busy Fall and hectic Holiday Season and it felt so good to give my calloused hands a proper break from the jewellery pliers! It will probably be some time before I get to dip my toes in turquoise waters again! Now that it is so cold here, I really wish I could teleport back to the beach!

Happy New Year friends! Wishing you all a beautiful 2016 filled with peace, love, happiness and only good things!

Had a lazy January 1st that wrapped up with a delicious and joyous feast with my family. Hope your year is off to a good start as well!

I don't know if this counts as a New Year's resolution, but I have decided that I will aim to learn some new skills this year. I love making things and want to add to the arsenal.

I have had this on the mind and then just came across this interesting article on why making things is liberating. It is true... nice to know I can fix something or make something and not have to buy everything. Makes me proud to be a lifetime maker.

With saying farewell to 2015, I wanted to say thank you for letting me make things that I can share with you. Thank you to the most amazing customers, family and friends for all the support over the last year and always. Feeling hopeful that 2016 will be fabulous in work and in life too!

At the close of the One of a Kind Show, I'm feeling reflective.... Prepare for a sappy message ahead. This is my 15th year at the One of a Kind Show! So hard to believe! 

I'm very grateful to all our lovely and loyal customers that have grown along with us. Show by show, I've watched little kids grow up and customers hit life milestones. Takes me back to being the little girl that counted down to our family excursions to the show twice a year. It was the highlight of my year and I couldn't get enough. Every visit was filled with creative inspiration and we always brought something special home with us. Now after 15 years exhibiting at the show and 29 shows total when you count the spring edition too, I hope that I have been able to share some of these special treasures with some of you! 

Wanted to say a huge thank you to my friends and family who have been super supportive over the last decade and a half. Thank you for the set up help, booth help, take down help, food and drink deliveries, messages of support and all the love! Thanks also to my fellow makers, amazing booth neighbours and creative community and the team at OOAK for filling my life with all sorts of handcrafted goodness. 

Looking forward to many more wonderful years ahead.

Unify Bracelets

Things are super busy here! Feeling the crunch that hits me like a wall every year at this time! 

I have been busy building up stock for the Holiday season. Amongst creating many other things, I have spent hours this week making these Unify bracelets! It has been a sunny and unseasonably warm week here in Toronto, and I have loved it! The second Hallowe'en passes by, the Holiday campaigns launch everywhere and it seems that all I hear is Christmas jingles and flip past print ads. As per usual, this is the moment I realize how much still needs to be accomplished in the next few weeks. Bit of a conflicted feeling with the warm weather and Holiday buzz, but it kind of suits me just right! Love the bright sunshine. Seems to motivate a much higher level of production which is much needed right now! 

Found it so relaxing and almost meditative to make these Unify Bracelets. They look great on their own, stacked in a group, or mixed up with other pieces. Choose from 8 great colours! All are lovely! I had a hard time picking one for myself.

This weekend was filled with cozy meals, disappointing baseball results, ticking things off the seemingly endless to do list and long city walks kicking around the Autumn leaves. Made with vintage plastic links, brass details with a touch a wood too! Found a a small amount of these great plastic links so these pieces will be limited in numbers. The pieces are bold but sit comfortably and make enough of a statement to compete with our scarves and layers we have piled on at this time of year!

MoonRox Collection for Fall/Winter 2015

Pictured here are the Configure Necklace and Bracelet. I had fun playing with geometric forms and making a bold and modern grouping. Large acrylic beads are combined with a very large brass box chain in these two fun pieces.

Spa escape

Turning this into an annual tradition for SF's birthday! Drove up to Collingwood for the day to relax and zen out at le Scandinavia Spa. This time we really made the best of it.  My friend Mrs. L-O joined us on this sunny September day. Did about 7 cycles of hot, cold, rest in the Scandinavian baths before heading for massages. Some friends had gotten me a gift certificate for my birthday several months back, so I was excited to try my first massage ever!  I think I have to get used to random man with his hands all on me, but eventually I relaxed and enjoyed it. We returned to the pools for several more cycles of hot, cold, relax and repeat and by this time we were super relaxed and moving at a noticeably slower pace. Chilling by a nice fire as the sun set and glowed through the flowers was an ideal setting.  Had perfect weather and really only extracted ourselves from this bliss because we were hungry! We ended our day with a rib feast before returning to the city.

Lost my spa vibes almost immediately as I had some work to catch up on late at night before calling it. Already daydreaming of going back!

The Ex, 2015

Every year for the past several, an evolving group of friends, but always some staples, have gone to the Blue Rodeo show at the Amphitheatre.  It's our traditional ultra-Canadian wind down of Summer.  After the show, we head to the Ex as a large gang to hit as many rides and eat as much junk as possible before they shut down for the night.  These are some snapshots from this past Saturday night!  I always love all the lights, colours and delicious gaudiness of the midway at night!  Hope to head back and visit my favourite alpaca friends in the farm building before the Exhibition wanders away for another year after Labour Day!

Hong Kong, part II

It's been a busy Summer and now as I browse these pictures, my memories of these experiences have already dimmed!  Glad I took so many photos!  Sorry for the delay in posting these.  Here are the photos from the second part of my Hong Kong travels.

A three week trip was over before I knew it.  I didn't have any jet lag upon my return to Toronto, but it took me weeks to recover from the over eating and intense family time!  Now as I write this a couple months after the trip, I have witnessed a few more friends lose some very close loved ones. Reminds me how lucky I am to have two healthy parents that love to sidekick with me!  I am so  grateful to have been able to spend some quality time with fam especially in such exotic places!
