(Late August)

Ordinarily on a Sunday at this time, I would have been settling in at the lunch table with Grandma. We'd go for dim sum, or Swiss Chalet, or even a big rack of ribs. She loved ribs! It definitely feels odd to be sitting at my desk at this hour. It has been our routine to fill our Sundays with family meals with both my Mom's and my Dad's sides of the family. It has been a tough couple of weeks, but slowly things are soaking in and we are keeping busy with work and making sure to keep up with friends. Seems everyone wants to catch up at this time of year, with Summer nearing end and Labour Day approaching. I've got to say, it has been a nice distraction to see everyone.
Crafted some headbands with some little girls...
was told by a five year old that he did not know how he has survived without me -- made my day...
caught a concert...
went to the Ex (pics to come)...
went wedding dress shopping with the Sister...
ate gelato...
comforted a heartbroken friend...
went for bike rides...
watched with sadness as the country mourns a school friend's father...
celebrated some birthdays...
and spent quality time with family.

Peace

Last week we lost our Grandmother...

My cousin sent us this photo of her 1934 certificate from the Midwives Board of Hong Kong. She was just 20 years old. It's amazing to go through all of her photos and re-live the memories of years gone by. Sad to think of how much history and how many untold stories have left with her. She lived a long and full life and she will be deeply missed by our entire family. We'll always remember and cherish the times spent together.

May you rest in peace, dear Mah Mah.

Weekend-ing

Had a fun weekend out and about enjoying the city. On Saturday we brunched in Kensington after our late night the day before... then headed to the Island for an afternoon micro-vaycay!
This is no pink coral Bermuda sand, but it was still nice to relax by the water in the warm sunshine!
Grabbed dinner at the charming Rectory Café, which has a small but nice menu. Our meals were all pleasantly tasty!
Our afternoon was too brief! As the sun began to set, we biked over to catch the ferry back to the city. We shall have to return again for another mini getaway!
Love my Lilliput Hat! I've got another one that is being sized to my large noggin! Have to pick it up this week, but it's more of a Fall hat, so I'll have to wait to wear it!
Had a brief rest, before heading out for the evening. The highlight was catching our friend's 11 or 12 piece band play atop the bars on both sides at La Palette. Wish I had better photos.
Sunday was spent brunching and visiting with family. My Grandmother did not seem herself yesterday and this morning she was admitted to the hospital. I am really hoping she will feel better soon! Broke my heart to see her looking so little and helpless today in her hospital bed.

Hope you had a nice Family Day long weekend! Caught up with some friends and saw my Grandmother and Aunt L. but missed the rest of the family this weekend.

On Sunday I visited the St. Lawrence antique market. I do enjoy roaming around there to see what bits and bobs people have collected. It's like a mini history lesson at every stop. It's also a great place for people watching. Came away without purchasing anything and was quite pleased with myself as I really need to purge, not pollute my space with more things.

'Twas a nice long weekend! Plus I got plenty of work done and the majority of the orders from the Mode Show are ready to go!

Holidaying and Celebrating

Toes that match a Christmas cactus! How does the plant know exactly when to bloom?

I was well behaved and didn't buy a thing on Boxing Day. Roamed around in the mobs of people with the family and J.Mo too. Other than that, I have spent the past few days chilling out at my parents' place, eating treats, watching movies and painting toes.

Today is my Grandmother's 97th birthday! Pretty amazing! We had a nice celebration! Mmm... I am still savouring the delicious lobster.

A weekend in June

Hope everyone enjoyed a nice weekend. I was only home for a couple waking hours over the past few days, so am a bit worn out. Went to the album release party for Friendlyness and the Human Rights, went to the Trinity Bellwoods Yard Sale, went to J.'s bridal shower, had dim sum with Family, and dined at A.'s house a few times! I am going to wear out my welcome at her place soon enough! I didn't take many photos this weekend, but here are two from the yard sale.
Look what Aunt L. found! This was the coolest salt and pepper set I have seen in a while! You turn the dial on the front of the TV and the shakers elevate for access to the S&P!
It was a cool day and these wool blankets were looking really cosy. Love the leather straps to tote them with.

I picked up some Pyrex and Fire-King items to add to my ever-expanding collection!

Week in review

'Twas a nice quiet week. I felt like I got a lot of things cleared off my plate at the end of April, so I was happy to calm down a bit. Here's just some of what I got up to...
Went for a peachy lunch as faux tourists overlooking Dundas Square with C.,
saw a two-toned tree,
hung out with a not-so-secret admirer,
or three,
enjoyed sweets and tea and quiet time at home,
mmm...
dropped in on the Inspirations Studio Sale and got these unbearably charming cards and more,
and attempted to sew a dress that is turning out to look more like a hospital gown!

Wrapped up the week with Mother's Day dim sum with Mah Mah (grandmother) and a cheap and cheerful dins with Aunt L. The first full week of May just flew by!

Holiday 2009 and Grandma's 96th Birthday

Hope everyone enjoyed a nice holiday. We spent Christmas Eve feasting at L. and J.'s in Burlington, Christmas day feasting at my parents' place and then the past two days feasting in restaurants while shopping like maniacs. Not as many deals to be had as other years, but I did manage to cover a lot of ground and pick up a couple things. My Mom got me this yummy Foley + Corrina City Tote on super sale at Specchio for a Christmas present. I can't seem to have enough handbags and shoes. Tomorrow I need to do a purge in the closet so I don't feel so bad!

I went nuts with raffia and kraft paper bags this year, but I did wrap a couple boxes in proper wrapping paper.
Here are a couple nice trees spotted around town. Above is a tree of lights in Cumberland Park in the heart of Yorkville and below is the shimmering Swarovski crystal tree at the Eaton Centre.

Today is our Grandmother's 96th birthday! Here I am with cute Gran just before the dinner celebration and before my camera battery gave out. I'll have to wait for everyone else's photos with more family. She's wearing a faux pearl and Swarovski crystal necklace that I made her. It goes with a matching ring and bracelet. It seems a lot of her jewels have gone missing at her retirement home, so she needed some new gems! The necklace looked lovely with her new sweater from Aunt I.!
